Hi All,

I've had numerous safety sausages over the years, but I love the ones that you can fill with your octopus and close with a magnet. In places with lots of boat traffic, it makes an easy way to protect your divers when they're coming up from the safety stop. But now, everywhere I look online, they only sell oral-inflation sausages. That is a serious pain in the butt if you're leading a dive, because you have to compensate for your buoyancy as you inflate, take your reg out to inflate, etc. What gives? Is there some reason they don't sell the open-ended sausages any more? If anybody has a link to a site where I can buy a magnetic one, please send!!!

Thanks...
Amber

Maybe you should look for a SMB rather than a Safety Sausage. I have one of each. The SMB is closed at the bottom with a magnet. The Safety Sausage is filled orally.

This is what I have. I got it with a finger spool and a trilobite in a package deal. It was one that Netdoc and DRIS came up with a couple of months ago. Don't know if it is still available but it was a good deal. I think they even called it the scubaboard package or something like that. You could contact DRIS and see if they still do it.

I also sell a package that includes a SMB, spool, and trilobite line cutter. Or buy them separately.

I put them up in July here and have sold a few of them. And have em in stock.

All HOG on the SMB and spool by the way.

The 6ft is an open bottom like you are looking for. And I don't think the ones you are thinking of have a magnetic closure. It's called a duckbill valve and the metal strip sewn in on the bottom is to help it stand up on the surface.

As Jim said.... I've seen plenty of 'semi-closed' DSMBs that make use of one-way valves for inflation. Some of those, in turn, include a metal strip in the bottom to help keep the DSMB erect at the surface.

I've never seen a 'magnetic' opening DSMB. I stand by to be corrected (perhaps it's a regional thing), but I've never seen these and don't imagine that magnets would be particularly effective at maintaining a seal to keep air trapped in the DSMB.

I have seen these so they do exist. It's a nice gimmick but I am not keen to get one. Closed is by far the best solution. I think that all the bubbles torn bottom filling is just something people do before they figure out or someone teaches them the right way to fill a closed one.
