This is a very subjective question since there are many factors involved, such as budget, subject matter, and shooting environment. It is always best to have two lenses. One lens dedicated to macro (close-up) photography such as the Canon 100mm f/2.8L EF IS USM Macro with Ikelite flat lens port #5505.45 (#5508.46 if manual focusing is desired). The other lens should be a good wide angle or wide angle zoom such as the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 EF-S USM with Ikelite 8" dome #5510.45 + port body #5510.22. Another good less expensive wide angle zoom option is the Tokina 10-17mm AT-X 107 AF DX lens: See photos at the following link: David Haas Photos.

Your 50mm lens is ok to use, but not ideal. It has a narrow coverage angle and I believe a minimum focusing distance of 1.5 ft.

Another suggestion is to check out our helpful websites section to find feedback from other Canon/Ikelite shooters: Helpful Web Sites.
