Hello

I've been looking for a new camera and everything I've read points to the Canon S90

I have been told that the INON wide angle lens I use with my current Ixus 100 will not fit my Canon WP-DC35 housing

Can anyone please tell me which lens make I need to be looking at

Thanks

OC

Which Inon lens are you using? I am using the UFL-165AD, along with the Inon lens mount for the WP-DC35. No vignetting at all when zoomed to 35mm.

HOWEVER, I had to modify the mount, or the lens would "bottom out" against the port glass. What I did was add 0.04" or 1mm plastic shim to the inside of the Inon mount piece that goes onto the front of the port. Slightly thinner (0.032" or 0.8mm) would have been barely adequate. The shim is an oval doughnut shape, to match the shape of the bezel on the front of the WP-DC35. The purpose is to keep the mount from going onto the housing quite as much. Since the front mount piece now sits out further, I had to elongate the two holes in the bottom mount piece by about 1mm. These holes are the ones the two thumb screws go through, holding the front piece to the bottom piece of the Inon mount.

Hi

Sounds like a brilliant peice of DIY ... thanks

I currently use the Inon UWL-105AD, which is a bayonet lens
your fish eye, I think has a screw thread

The guy that told me I cant use my current lens and would need a different lens to INON, on his website is:

Inon 28AD Mount Base Canon WP-DC 35 (S90)
Is this the one you use?

Thanks

The UWL105AD that the OP has and the UFL165AD that skynscuba has are both bayonet AD series mounts.

The DC35 housing with the Inon 28AD mount was designed for, guess what, 28AD lenses like the WAL100-28AD and not AD lenses but as some have found it is possible to use the AD series lenses on the 28AD mount.

Inon makes three basic series lenses:

1. 67mm threaded Type 1 and Type 2 such as the UWL100

2. AD series bayonet mount such as the UWL105AD, UFL165AD and UCL165AD

3. 28AD series bayonet mount such as the UWL100-28AD

I don't think my DIY skills are up to the job, especially if I have to elongate the two holes in the bottom mount piece and my strobe tray

What are the chances that Canon will bring out an AD mount in the next few weeks so that I can continue to use my current AD lens

or, is my only option to buy the AD28 mount + an UWL100-28AD

I would say completely unlikely.

I don't know if it is your only option. You might, since you already own the lens, wait until after you get the DC35 and Inon mount kit and see if it will work or if it can be "adjusted" like skynscuba did.

The elongated holes are not in your tray, they are in the lower piece of the Inon mount. What I did was very high-tech;): Get a drill bit about the size of the existing hole, put it in an electric drill, use the side of the bit to woggle out the hole. Keep doing it until you can thread the thumb screws, with the shim in place.

This is the same Inon mount as is used for the 28AD, so you can get the mount before committing to the 28AD lens. You can see whether the 105AD even matches up well optically, before bothering to make the shim or elongate the holes. If not, buy the other lens.

Thanks for your help guys, this is what I'm going to do ...

UWL100-28AD + the mount that goes with it for the DC-35

I'd love to be able to do DIY like SkynScuba does, but I'm really rubbish at stuff like that
