Hey everyone! Anyone out there using the Canon SD550? I recently bought it off of ebay with the underwater housing. I am really excited about this camera. Just wondered if there are any tricks to white-balancing with this camera underwater?

Oh you are so lucky!!, if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for it?

I have the Canon S400 with the case. I am not sure about the new models, but the S400 is a little to slow to focus under water. I would get strobe lights if you want to take really good pictures.

I just got back from Bonaire with my brand new SD550, and have hundreds of great photos. The underwater scene selector overides the white balance and color compensates very well. I found the camera very easy to use underwater (this was my first experience with u/w photography, although I have fairly extensive topside digital experience) and I am very happy with the picture quality. the camera is fast, has a decent strobe, and even shoots nice video. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying my 550.

Ikelite has decided to make a housing for this camera so it will be good to 200' so I'm leaning towards this camera. I love the idea of the 2.5" viewfinder but it's a shame there is no RAW support. Oh well...win some, lose some.

I agree the underwater mode works pretty well. I have not tried to config the manual settings including the whitebalance. autolevels in Photoshop 7.0 will work wonders most of the time.

I'd love to see your shots. I have only done some local California diving with mine, so far. Very happy overall, although I'm starting to see how more manual controls would be nice.

I'm happy to see Ikelite now makes a housing for this camera... I have the Canon housing (which was a gift from my wife), and really wish I had the Ikelite. :-/ What strobe do you use, or are you only using the built-in flash (as I am, for now)?

I have my SD550 shots up here: http://www.kalani.net/scuba/ (all shot in the u/w mode, with no photoshopping at all so far)

Note I'm new to u/w photog, and learning fast, so the second group of shots is a lot better than the first (although there are a few nice ones in there as well).
