I have a trip coming up and I'm thinking about investing in the underwater case for my canon SD600. I'm happy with the results I get from this tiny yet afordable camera on land (except in low light situations where the high ISO takes over and causes noise). How does it perform underwater? Specifically, how does it perform underwater without a strobe? They cost too much for me right now, but I do want to take some decent pictures while diving. Is the underwater case worth the $240 without a strobe for scuba diving, or will my images suffer too much? Thanks!

You won't take many wide angle shots except for in shallow water from any camera without a strobe, but yes, the SD600 performs quite nicely underwater. I have a buddy with one and he has taken some very nice shots. Macro performs very well with the built-in flash, but internal flashes are useless for anything more than a couple feet away, underwater. Keep in mind the limitations, and you'll be happy with it.

If it only cost $164 (LINK) would that make the decision to buy easier?

i have the SD500 which is quite similar and it does pretty well despite lacking manual controls. The stuff in my gallery was taken with it. As CompuDude said, it will work best for macro shots due to the limitations of the internal strobe. Inon makes some nice attachment lenses for the Canon cases too
