Hi,

I am Italian, I live in Tokyo, I am an Advanced Open Water Diver

with Padi with few dives (25) but Zero under water photography

experience: never shot a single frame! I am also new to this Forum so

I apologise if I ask questions which have already been asked and

replied to.

I am going to Bali this next week and I was wondering if anyone can

advise me on the best camera case for an S90 Canon.

I am completely ignorant of underwater photography but I was a

fashion photographer for some 6 years. In your advice, please, could

you also tell me why the particular case which you reccommend is

better than others.

Please consider that I am NOT familiar with underwater technicalities

such as if it is really necessary to use fish eye, depth at which a strobe

becomes essential, special lens requirements for air/water light

deflections, ring sizes, accessories etc...

In this and other forums I read that the Canon case is totally

insufficient as it cannot mount special accessories as strobes, fisheye

lens, etc...

In fact, I have no clue at all in this field and I would welcome a very,

very basic explanation with as much adivce and reccommendations as

you have tim to give me.

Thank you for you advice and time!

The first thing you need to learn about underwater photography is that it usually takes more than a week to purchase equipment.

Maybe consider renting something on Bali instead? You would get a better idea what kind of equipment suits your needs.
Anyway, rather keep the things as simple as possible till you gain more experience. I would not suggest extra lenses or even a strobe for the beginning. It really is different photography than top side.

Get the Canon Case, I doubt you will be able to get the ikelite before you go.

The flash on the S90 is not very strong for underwater use. If you want to get a separate underwater strobe I would suggest the INON S2000, its a good strobe and its from Japan so you should be able to buy it in a store in Tokyo. Get an optical cable with the strobe.

As a beginner, the Canon Case is fine. After a few more dives with a camera you can start worrying about changing lenses,etc....

Also get a big SD card, 16GB or more, and shoot in RAW mode.
All your pictures will come out too blue, with RAW and Adobe Photoshop you can fix that up after the dive.

Kghun Neal,

That's anoher good idea! Thank you!
