Anyone have some tips for shots with an S50? I have the canon 100ft enclosure. I've taken a few pics, but they could definately be clearer. I dont have any additional lighting, so I have to try to make the camera work the way it is.

Thanks!
Jeff

Can you please post some of your images so we can take a look at it?

I have canon s80 so far all my macro and 2 feet from subject pictures have been awesome.

I am getting a strobe so i can take further shots of fishes going by.

Here are some of the better pics. I guess I should dig up some of the bad ones too - so I can find out what I'm doing wrong...I'll post those later.

Hi Jeff,

You have some nice shots and are definitely doing well for a first try.

The first thing to do is manually adjust the white balance- or shoot RAW and edit it later. Are any of your photos in RAW mode?

Next, you need to get real close. Anything beyond 3ft usually looks blue. Most of my photos are taken less than 2ft away.

Unless you shoot macro, try not to shoot downward (last 2 shots). You may want to try shooting macro first, with the flash on. You'll need to be less than 12" from your subject.

Consider purchasing a Magic Filter. It's a cure for the "blues." You won't believe how much color bring back. www.magic-filters.com

My gallery is mainly with the s50 and I have even bought a second hand one as backup. I usually use the flash but on a clear day you can get some good stuff without.

Keep taking pictures.

Anyone know how to reset the entire camera to factory settings? My wife made some changes that I dont seem able to undo. How do you set it to RAW mode? Do you usually shoot in "Auto"?

The manual for this thing is long gone and as a bonus, all of the icons on the mode selector wheel have rubbed off :)

Most of the pics on our website were shot with an s50... manual white balance... flash off. A few of the closeups (see "accollades" & "accommodations" pages) were shot with the built-in flash... auto white balance. I may have a manual for your camera around here somewhere... I'll take a look!

Before you go to raw make sure your post processing software can cope with it. Do some searches on "raw" in the photo forum to find our more about it and where you can get "plug ins" that will help use it. I don't use it but may start shortly.

I usually use aperture priority - "av" on the mode slector wheel - even if they are rubbed off you can see the setting in the top right hand corner of the screen as you turn the wheel.

To reset to default turn camera on (can be in either replay or shoot mode)
Press the menu button for longer than 5 seconds (menu is the bottom buttom to the right of the LCD screen in case you have lost that label too)
The message "reset settings to default?" should appear on screen
Select Ok and then press "set" - the middle of the silver bar on the top right shoulder.

Good luck

Alison
