Hey guys, I am a diver of 23 years and new to this forum. I used to take pics with my Nikonos, but haven't taken an UV shot in over 10 years. My above ground camera is a Canon 20D. I guess I want to know if I can get an ikelite housing and such to bring it UW. I am sol old-school UV that I need to be updated!!!! That goes for what strobe to get and housings...etc..IF it can even be done~ Thanks:confused:

Absolutely you can. Don't expect to walk away under about 3Gs though. There are other options than Ike, but Ike is an excellent choice.

If you don't want to drag the 20D underwater, perhaps check out one of the very capable compacts and start there. The strobe will move with you should you decide to house the 20D later.

There are several current threads here on pages 1-4 with "which camera" that will be a great starting place.

Ask questions and we'll try to help!

Thanks Alcina! Price doesn't scare me, but you are right about lugging that big thing under water. There is something too be said for compact power! I will do some thread reading in the meantime, but any input from you guys is greatly appreciated!

lynny lynny,

I have a Canon 30D for above ground and debated about getting a housing to take it underwater. I decided to go with the Canon A620 with the ikelite housing for about $700 total. That was without the strobe. I just got back from a trip and I LOVED it! My next purchase will certainly be a strobe. I should have a trip report done and ready to post in the next week if you want to check out some of the pictures I took with it!

It is a hard decision to make! Good luck!

The 20d Ikelite housing is excellent. Pay careful attention to your choice of lens because that will affect your port choice. The Ikelite website is helpful regarding those things, but you may have additional questions.

I shoot with 20ds UW and use Ikelite housings and lights. I have tried pretty much all the various ports so if you have specific questions, feel free to send me a PM.

Jeff
