This is a new camera for me (usually used Canon PowerShot SD950 IS). I like taking short videos. I read the manual, but found that my videos seem to stop (or freeze?) and then continue several times within 15-30 seconds. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The video becomes jerky and not fun to watch. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to get better videos?

I appreciate any help.

I did a search, but couldn't find anything. So if you know of an older thread that might help me, please point me in the right direction.

What brand/model of SD card are you using? I'm no techie, but if your memory card is not fast enough to "drain" the built-in buffer as you shoot video, you could see something like what you're describing.

Of course, if you're talking about your videos stuttering on playback on a computer, then it may have to do with transfer rate from the SD card - if you're playing back directly from the card - or transfer rate from your harddisk, or finally the graphic card in your computer could be choking on the amount of video data being played back.

If you can provide a bit more info about exactly what/when etc. we may be able to narrow it down.

i have used the a630 with great results. it could be the SD card, or maybe it was your playback device, like a laptop with a small ram. Try to down load the video to another computer that is setup for digital photo's , see if that helps. it might also help to turn off background programs , like mozilla, or picassa, quicktime, etc, these can interfer. they always turn themselves back on. i loved my A630 and the new a720 is just as good. but the a720 will not fit in the a630 case. its about 3 mm to large..

This is wonderful information! I'm going to check both. I was watching the videos after downloading to my laptop which is always telling me I'm low on memory! I can't thank both of you enough. I'm going to do my homework and get back here to let you know if that's my problem. I'm addicting to taking videos and was so excited about my new camera. Many thanks!

I venture a guess that it was your computer. More RAM might help.

I wanted to again thank all of you for answering. I tried using the camera again yesterday with much better results!

1. Part of it was my laptop, my husband tried playing the same videos and only had a few do the stop/start/stop/start.
2. We think that part of the problem is the focus is kind of auto, fixed to what is first seen when you click the start the video button...but I was drift diving and moving too fast at times. My husband thinks the camera might have been trying to adjust for the new conditions. And I was very careful this time around and had no stop/start/stop/start.

I was about to give up. I'm not very patient which is a quality good photographers have! But I love shooting the videos and uploading them to YouTube. So I appreciate all the help!
