hello, Im new to photography and scuba board. I just bought a canon powershot A550. I didn't see that canon does not make a UW case. why not? and Ikelite case is @ 300.00. does anybody know of any other options when it comes to a UW case for this camera. or if you have one let me know. thanks .. no calif..

Returning it to the store and buying a camera that has an housing available might be a good start.

I have to agree. Return the camera and buy a camera that has a case built for it or buy the Ikelite. I bought a Canon S1 after doing some research and knowing Canon had a case. The Ikelite case may be better built. I used my underwater case for three years with no issues.
While you are reviewing a different camera. Get a camera that stores pictures in RAW or at least one that allows you to set the white balance. Underwater photos can be very difficult to capture well over 3 feet from the subject. Raw allows you better ability to correct photos with Photo Shop. You may want to research this more.
Good Luck

ho no. don't think this was the answer I was looking for, but definitely an option. No, I was thinking of another company making U/w cases. or maybe one of canons other cases would work for this camera? something like that. I like the camera. and if I have to buy the ikelite I will. but I have to agree. why did canon not build a case for this camera? makes one think.

The Ikelite housing for this camera will set you back $300 + shipping. For about $400 you can pick up a brand new A710IS and the Canon housing. If the A550 can be returned you will probably get back the $150 or so you spend on it (total w/ housing would put you over $450) and invest in a better camera with a housing for less money.

You might want to keep an eye out on eBay or another auction site. Check out the For Sale forum on WetPixel.com too. The crowd over there is pretty focused on Underwater photography, and you see a lot of equipment go up for sale as people trade up to the "latest and greatest." Buying that IkeLite housing isn't a bad idea, though. I've got one for a G5 that I've hauled around for the past few years. IkeLite makes a good product.

thanks for all the input. this camer has only been on the market for 6 months or so I am told. canon should make a case soon. but I think ill go with the IkeLite. I here there one of the best cases you can get. hay tom. if your still here. have we met? you look like a guy I met at ocean cove, salt point. calif. at a campout last year. Erics party.
