My shutter release is becoming a bit sticky - only at depth of course. Is silicone spray an acceptable lubricant for the various moving parts on the housing?

thanks,
HDIGIT

Have you tried running it under a tap, while pressing the button to work out any salt/dirt buildup in the gland? That might help.

There is a post some where here where it's described how to service stuck buttons in a Canon housing.
To have it handly, I've copied it to a word file that I'm attaching. The word document inside has the author.
I have not still had to do this, as my housing is almost new (it has no more than 10 dives).
Hope this helps you.

I think that the original site where it is described the procedure to clean and service sticky buttons in a Canon housing should be in the sticky part of this sub-forum.

Not too sure if you should use a silicone spray on the buttons. Some plastics will react and crack the housing. Ikelite warn users regarding this. Best thing to do is soak the housing in rain water (Bottled RO water works well) before and after the dive. Work all buttons before drying the housing. Yes, it's a bit of work but worth it in the long run.

Housing manufacturers all use slightly different seal materials, but many of them use silicone rubber seals. Silicone rubber can be damaged by the solvents in silicone oil, so I wouldn't use any spray silicone around a housing. The usual lubricant for silicone o-rings is petrolatum (which is essentially vaseline, only without any additives), but every housing has slightly different chemistry and different recommended lubricants.

I use to lubricate my Olympus housing control plungers with pure liquid silicone, food grade, purchased from a dive shop (Trident brand) and never had any issues with leaking.

I have since used the same pure silicone liquid on the control plungers of my Canon WP-DC28 housing with no problems.

One drop from an eyedropper should do it. Push/turn the respective control plunger/dial to work in the lubricant.
