Has anyone seen where they sell new gaskets for canon uw housings?

Also, I don't know how others have found getting that gasket off but i can't pull it off with my fingers, end up using a guitar pick or a nail... which the instructions basically say not to do...

The orings can be had directly from Canon.

If you squeeze and push gently between thumb and finger you may be able to get just enough to roll it off. It's a knack. And put a little silicon grease on it (just a little) it may make it easier next time.

The guitar pick's a new one on me.

I use my thumb and roll my o-ring out of the groove on the bottom edge near the middle. Silicone grease makes it harder (not easier) to get the grip you need to dislodge it. Of course, you ARE cleaning, inspecting and re-greasing before every dive, right? So this adds to your challenge. If you don't consistently clean and inspect, the housing will eventually flood and you'll be in the market for another camera. It's a matter of when, not if.

Gaskets are about $18 each. Canon has them; so does Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc. If you were asking me, I'd replace the gasket every other year and maybe sooner if you dive a lot. It's cheap insurance. Feel free to store your existing o ring somewhere other than crushed in the housing with the door shut on it for months at a time.

Nothing will ever replace the value of your personal inspection and even lubrication of the gasket before every dive.

Enjoy

FWIW I do not relube my orings for every dive/use. I remove the oring when I need to only. The more you play with it the shorter its life as it will get a little stretched. I visually inspect it carefull every time the housing is opened - no matter for how long. I also lightly run my finger over the exposed edge each time. Reinspect everything when the housing is shut and again before heading into the water. Carefulness is key!

When you do remove your oring, make sure to clean and inspect the groove itself, too.

I was unclear on why lubing makes the oring slightly easier to remove - when it's drier it sticks to the housing, with a little lube it rolls out of the groove with the right touch :) Think slightly shiny, no glumps!

I think we're getting a bit off-topic.

However, I think you have definitely hit the key point. You can visually inspect the seal when the housing is closed, making sure there is nothing obstructing the seal.

Thanks for the tips, got it all cleaned out pretty well and regreased... going to a surgy spot in the morning and getting the gear ready for it.

I've been inspecting it every time, but have been getting apprehensive about my o ring removal method... I am thinking you guys are using your fingernails(?) at least a little bit... as a nail biter, mine are of no use... I think the light gauge guitar pick functions about the same as a little poke from a fingernail--- pushing away from the ring and into the plastic.

Anyway, thanks for the help, reassured me that inspection is the key...

Thanks,
Scott

No nails - just the pads of my fingers.

There are several oring removal tools around - I seem to have collected several types! One looks like a pick but is really flimsy. If you are really careful and gentle you should be fine YMMV

If my toothpick hasn't ruined mine yet, then I can't picture your quitar pick doing damage. My o-ring doesn't get stuck to the housing because its lubed. I can't for the life of me use that method of squeezing with the thumbs, and you're stretching it at that time anyway. Pick it out carefully like you've been doing.

K, I just spent the better part of an hours searching for a backup oring for my S70 case. Nothing on Amazon, B&H, Adorama, google hits are not helpful, and the Canon Store does not list these things.....

Rather annoying! So anyone have a link, or more information? Maybe I'll just Call Canon tomorrow...
