Canon G9 pre-flash settings in manual mode

How do I configure/set up the pre-flash when using manual mode. The pre-flash is automatically set up in aperture/shutter priority as well as program and scenes, but I am not able to set up pre-flash in the manual mode.

Pre-flash is an automatic function, meaning the camera emits a series of flashes to help the camera adjust for the correct main flash power...automatically.

Manual mode is just that... manual control and the pre-flash has no business in manual mode, its just a waste of power.

I am an old Oly user and those camera were able to set up the preflash via red eye.
