Morning all,

My G9 should be coming in the mail in the next few days. I'm going to order the ikelite housing today. I am wondering if anyone can give me any insight on what type of strobe combinations would be the easiest to use with it.

To give you a little background on myself. I've been using an olympus SP-310 in an olympus housing for the last 2 years. No strobe. No add on lenses. I really haven't messed with the av/tv settings but I am getting to the point where I want my pictures to look more professional so I'm reading up on it and have been messing around with it. I do use the underwater modes a lot which have given me decent results. You can check out www.weitodive.com or Flickr: WeeI's Photostream to see some of the pictures I've taken. (Critiques would be much appreciated too) I need to be able to take pictures of students all together hence the reason I want a wide angle lens. I also want to get a macro lens cause I love seeing good macro shots. I am thinking about going with a strobe with ttl.

So on to my questions.
1. Will the ikelite bayonet adapter work on any of the INON lenses? I know i have to get the flat port for it to put the 67mm adapter on it to even put the bayonet adapter on. Does anyone have this configuration?

2. Does teh G9 do a good enough "Wide Angle" shot without all the adapters?

3. Is the internal flash sufficient or is an external going to provide that much more? I have heard that the lens port does cause some issues with lighting on the bottom of the photos. The flash i'm planning on getting is the ds-125.

I'm not poor but i'm not rich either so I want to do my best to make a purchase that I will be able to use in the future but also not break the bank.

I looked heavily into the G9 until I decided it was to compromised for the expenditure but that is just my opinion, yours may be different. You should talk to SFLDiver, he shoots some great looking stuff with that camera.

The Ikelite housing does not need nor does it accept an adapter for Inon lenses. You must use the screw on 67 MM (Inon Type II???). The "adapter" you are thinking about from Ikelite for Inon is for their small port camera housings, the G9 uses the larger port diameter housing, the adapter will NOT fit. The Ikelite port is already threaded as it comes.

The standard 6X zoom lens on the G9 has about a 45 degree surface field of view (at widest setting). Underwater behind a flat port you will get about 35 degree field of view. The Inon 100 WAL lens has a 100 degree field of view and with the Inon dome port installed it has up to 135 degree field of view. That is a BUNCH more than the G9 without---no two ways about it.

Yes, you need an external strobe to take fullest advantage of that camera's capability. An external strobe will provide far more power, far more coverage, far more capability.

I have the Ikelite DS 125 strobes with my G9 and I am very happy with the results, but on my recent dive trip to Fiji fiji_beqa_island Photo Gallery by Mel Moncrieff at pbase.com there were several people who had similar cameras who were using the Ikelite DS 51 strobes with good results. If I were on a limited budget, I would buy the Ikelite wide angle lens and lens port along with the DS 51 strobe, rather than the DS 125 (for about the same money), because a wide angle lens allows so much more flexibility.
