Hi guys.

Could any G9 users tell me how many dives they are averaging on the batteries before they give up ?

Thanks

My G9 gave up at the end of the fourth dive of the day while under the Red Sea dives were 47, 46, 48 and 63 minutes. I take many pictures per dive (50+, only keep a handful) in RAW with the flash turned down to 1/3 to trigger my YS-110 strobe.

Seemed it stayed on three bars until the 4th dive then is died pretty quickly.

Geoff H. gave me the following information in a prior post:

The standard Canon battery is 720mAh, you can buy a 1100 mAh one here for $8.99 (Sorry, it was a link in my post):

Blue Nook - Canon NB-2L / NB-2LH Replacement Battery (1100 mAh)

Hope this helps....M

I average around 6-8 dives before the battery gives up, with 20-30 shots per dive being normal. This is using the standard flash intensity and shooting in RAW... that would make it approximately 175 shots which tallies with Jorgy's estimate.

This is the link mentioned

How do you reduce the flash down to 1/3rd ? Is that the same as reducing the exposure compensation or is that something different (excuse my ignorance).

It is a different setting. You can press Func Set, then scroll down to the third item (a downward flash arrow with a +/-) and adjust the value from -2 to +2.

This works in P, Tv, Av, M and C1/C2 modes, and the manual mode looks slightly different to the others.

I reduce the internal flash down to 1/3 (lowest setting), but I shoot in manual and just need enough flash to fire my YS-110 Strobes via fiber optic cable I use the manual intensity adjustment on the Strobes to control the exposure.

I think if you override the internal flash to its lowest setting then you pictures may not come out right in the "automatic" modes.

For example, if you are in AP mode and you set the flash to 1/3 power would the camera realize this and hold the shutter open longer or increase the ISO (or both)? Or would the picture just be dark? I am not sure......

I am still learning myself........

My G9 battery is replaced after 2 dive, because I just bought it last summers. But, I take around 100-150 shots per dive. I also have a stobe and use a FL to give some exposure and focus help to the camera. I do know that I am impressed with the Bat life on this cam. But I also have the screen come on only when taking the picture and off after 1 minute. This has alot to do with how long the Bat can last.
