Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have been using a gopro for the last two years diving and frankly it doesn't produce the photos I'm after... On land I'm an avid photographer with some photos used in advertising as well... My girlfriend has a old Nikon 1 J1 she said I could have and currently there's a sale for the housing for 69.99.... Or is it worth it for me to buy a G16 and Fantasea housing ? I want to get the YS-03 strobes with either camera but if i use the Nikon I can afford the YS-D1

any input is greatly appreciated. Happy holidays to all

I own nauitcam housing, 2 ysd1 and g16 if you looking to shoot macro great little camera to start off with I have +7 wetland what really matters is what are you planning to do with the camera if macro is your thing then the g16 won't do exceptionally well

The first thing you need to learn is "what don't I know?".

$70 for the nikon housing gets you in the water and learning.

Once you learn how to use the camera AND discover what it will not do, then you can buy what you really need without wasting a big chunk of cash.

I see many people blindly spending $$$$ and then learning they bought the wrong thing.

As seaworm indicated, if you go the g16 route and want to shoot macro then you will also need to buy a wet lens (and flip holder). I use a subsee +10 and a deeproof flip adapter.

I want the p&s route bc dslr camera and housing are wayyyyy $$$ the g16 will keep me happy until I save for a bigger rig.

Thanks for the replays everyone. I actually was given the rx100M3 for Christmas so on Boxing Day I ordered an ok Ikelite housing. Still figuring out the strobe options but thanks for everyone's input. I love macro photos so I will have to buy wet lenses (I want a +10) I am diving in March in Turks and Caicos so by then I hope to have the housing and strobes. I figure I want to learn the camera and strobes before adding extra lenses.
