CV,

You saw my pictures (I am no professional, but the G15 has got some of the best pics I have ever gotten with not much work ) the RAW does make a big diff. in what you can do post processing - also what I did with my G15 was to set both of the custom buttons to copied settings I found around the web ... one for macro and one for wide angle - made it really easy. - Brian

Always interested in what other people use for their custom settings, especially if different from mine.... can you please post them. :-)

Chief, I still use the old Sealife DC500 with the Sealife Strobe. I started using a Canon G-11 in the Canon Housing with the Sealife Sea Dragon Light. I've had very good luck with both pics and video using this set up. I also picked up a used G-12. The DC500's I have are ebay stuff that
I reprogrammed using the elf file on the Sealife tech site. Good luck to you......

I upgraded from my Canon A570IS in an Ikelite housing (with Sola 1200 for video light) this spring to a Canon G16, also in an Ikelite housing, plus my Sola 1200 for video. I also decided to try a strobe, so opted for the Ikelike DS51. I must say that I absolutely love the new camera. The video especially (1080p @ 60fps) has much better low light capability, plus having HD is really nice.

The video really was the reason I upgraded - the 570's video resolution just wasn't up to today's standards.

However, comparing similar images taken on similar days really does show a massive positive difference between G16 and A570. Really noticeably sharper, even on an ambient light shot.

I use a Sealife 1000 with (and often without) the SL strobe. I use the auto feature. Check your manual regarding the manual white balance. The DC1000 has manual white balance adjustment, I bet yours does too.

Well, I read the manual at length looking for it and then I spoke the Sealife tech support both said no manual white balance, just to few different underwater settings. Are you saying that you can actually point the 1000 at a white slate and get the correct white balance at depth? If so, it is weird the got rid of that.

Well I made the jump and bought the G16. It has many knobs I don't understand.... And it does feel substantial. I think I am going to get the Fantasea case from the nice Shootingunderwater people. I need to figure out the settings for the sealife flash for the g16 and get the Canon button set for WB and maybe figure out how to set it to RAW and then wing it a little I guess. Heading to Coz on the 16th.

Let me add Sealife support is awesome. They have fixed stuff for me twice at no cost and even gave me a spare battery for my trouble.

Yep. It is in the manual settings menu on my DC1000. Mine came with the "white slate" as well. I don't know why they deleted this function in the newer models. In reality though, I just use the auto settings and have been pretty happy.

Well I was, too. Then I came to realize I was too blue, esp. compared to the missus who was using the manual WB on a Canon elph in a Canon box without flash. So then I got Lightroom and that helped a lot, but not enough.

I have learned to stop taking so $$%^ many pictures too, esp since I am now working on them. I also have reached the point I delete the HECK outta my crappy stuff when I get home.

Cv,

Sorry bout the delay ... been crazy work wise here -

I do have the lens holder for my macro but do not take it with me unless that is all I am am planning on shooting ( same as you .... more focus on the dive and if I get a decent pic that is great also )

My custom settings -

Macro
F8
1/1000
Macro on
ISO100 - 200
Force flash

Wide
F 5.6-8 with strobe F11 w/o
1/100-200
ISO up or down for desired background color

Hope it helps and good luck with the new rig! Brian

Thanks DofSandS. I think I figured out how to save a setting, but I have to figure out how to set the setting now.

Thanks, Shooting under Water. I got the Fantasea case off of you on Amazon. Arrived today.

Heading to Coz next week.
