I was diving the other day with a +10 diopter on my 60mm Macro lense and found it took a long time to auto focus. Not sure if that's normal or not but it took long enough that it almost became impossible to use.

Wonder if it would be easier to just buy a 100mm Macro lense instead of using a +10 diopter as a shortcut.

Anybody else out there use diopters successfully/unsuccessfully?

My understanding is that with a diopter you should manually focus in most cases as auto focus takes w a y to long as you found out.

I am not clear on what you are trying to do. Both the 60 and the 100 lens give you the exact same magnification. Exactly the same 1:1. It is a giant myth that the 100 gives you MORE magnification than the 60. a +10 diopter though will give you much more increase in magnification on the 100 than on the 60. On the 100 a +10 will give you a bit more than 2:1 and on the 60 you will get 1.5:1 only.
Yes autofocus is not great with a + 10 diopter, one easier approach to get to 1.4:1 is to use a teleconverter.
