meterman:
i just got a canon a85 and canon case. can i get a strobe and tray for it? if so what what and where can i get it.

How much do you want to spend? A high end systemwill run about $800. More if you want two strobes and you eventualy will want two. You could spend $1,200 for a pair of Inon strobes, try arms and sync cables.

Sealife makes a model "SL960" and Internet price is $290 and that includes the tray, arm and fiber optic sync cable.

I have a Sea and Sea YS90DX that I bought used for about the price of the SL960. I like the YS90DX. The light output is very controlable and it could be used either with a fiber sync cord or with a Nikon style or Sea and Sea style TTL sync cord.

A focus light would be nice for night diving but a low power divellight and a rubber band is easy to rig up.

For my Inon D2000 strobe, Ultralight tray & arms for my canon powershot s40. Inon lenses (wide angle & macro) set me back about $1700.

will the sea and sea strobe work with the a85?

Sea & Sea's YS-25A, YS-90DX, and YS-90A are all compatible in P, A, S, & M modes...

This camera can actually be used with any flash that has a slave sensor because it does not fire a preflash in Manual Mode. That being said, the above options, along with Ikelite Strobes triggered via a Manual EV Controller, and Inon Z-series & D-2000 strobes have other features making them more appropriate for use with digital cameras. Most notably, finite variable output or some sort of auto sensor.
