Hi,

I'm new to this board, and new to diving, but it's my intention (now that I've finished the Padi Open Water Diving course), to keep up diving and concentrate on UW photography (as photography in itself is one of my hobbies right now anyway :-)).

I own quite some camera's, but I think the way to go for UW photography is digital, so that leaves me with my Canon A80 (I don't think my Nikon D70 would be a good choice anyway).

Is it a good idea to buy the Canon underwaterhousing (WP-DC900) for it, or is there a better UW housing for it, or isthat camera a bad choice and should I better look out for another camera ?

I used the search function, but I didn't find anything on 'A80', so ..

Thanks for any help,

Stefan.

I like the Canon A series. I think they are a great camera to get into uw photography with and will grow with you for quite some time.

I'd say, get the housing. Learn how to get the most out of your camera and housing then start thinking about adding a strobe. Learn that set-up. Get some macro or WA add-on lenses. Learn how to use those.

This will keep the typical diver happy for a long time. Once you master your camera you may find that you want to house the D70 (expect big bucks to be spent here) or you may find that adding pieces as outlined above will be the way for you. Don't make all of your decisions before you even get the first kit wet ;)

And buy a good strobe - it will go with you from system to system for years to come.
