Hi Folks. I've been following all the Canon A620 threads and can't tell you how useful all your comments have been. Very constructive dialogue all-around.

I recently purchased the A620 + Wp-DC90 combo and now hope to buy an external strobe. After reading all the threads and researching the net on external strobes, I am still wondering what strobe to buy (we all know how that goes...). One of the questions that comes to mind is with regard to compatibility. Some posts have mentioned that trays didn't fit for one reason or another (even though the manufacturer said that they were "universal"), and that some mechanical "work-around" was required to make the strobe adapt to the housing. Has anyone out there bought an external strobe package for their A620/DC90 combo that fitted properly and functioned well from the gitgo? If so, I'd appreciate hearing what you bought and your overall impressions. Many thanks. Mach

The strobe itself will work fine with your camera. You just have to find trays and arms that work well with your housing, unless you want to hand hold the strobe. ;) I don't know if they make trays for Canon housings, but you might want to check out Ultra Light Control Systems (www.ulcs.com), which makes some of the best, by all accounts.

You must make sure the tray will fit to your U/W housings "standard" tripod mount. Ikelites screw is bigger than Canon's so alteration is a must.

All strobes that can be triggered via fiber optic cable, or slave mode should be compatible. Except for those that don't like your cam's preflash! Newer "digital" strobes should work.

I use the Ikelite single handle, and DS-50 strobe with the manual controller. This works fine, and no modification was necessary. Pictures with this setup are in our gallery.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, my biggest concern right now is about mechanical compatibility, ie; tray attachment to the Canon DC90 housing without modification, then arm to tray, strobe to arm, etc. If I read you right Havnmonkey, you believe that the Ikelight tray would require my modifying, possibly tapping (due to screw size) into the Canon housing, right? But, H2obubbles then goes on to apparently say that the single handled (tray?) didn't require any? This is why I'm confused, and placed this post (lol with frustration!). Could either of you offer anymore info to help me? Thanks again -- Mach
