Which would be a better option to get. What are your experiences? I would also like to purchase the housing and a strobe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

generally speaking, I'd recommend the A- series (manual controls) over the SD- series (full-auto). You will need the additional control to really take great pictures underwater. Inon (www.inonamerica.com) makes nice add-on accessories for the Canon underwater cases.

I am currently using an SD500 in the Canon case with an Inon D2000 strobe. I am going to be upgrading the camera soon, most likely to something in the A- series.

I agree, the Canon A series over the SD as there are no real manual controls on the SD.

The SD range does really nice images but for underwater photography, manual control will really help as you go along.

An additional bonus is several of the A series use 4 AA batteries which make for more photos with the flash on and cheaper rechargables so you can keep spares on hand.

I chose the A640. 10 megapixels, lots of great features, and even movies and you can get a refurb one for around $250.

The case is redily available on line at some of the good retailers which I won't mention cause I don't want to sound like I'm advertising. Check out the Fantasea line for your strobe and mount they have a small light compact little strobe called the nano that works good for around $120.00 if you buy from an online dealer not Fantasea.
