I'm a Fish!
Hi I am currently thinking about purchasing a canon a540. I am curious to know if any of you have used this camera and how long the batteries last. Any info would be great thanks.

I've got one :) No, I think it's the 520...batteries last easily for two 60 minute dives using the lcd screen so far.

Good little units. If you're nervous about battery life, or use the zoom a lot, then switch out during SIs.

What about the color I see everyone talking about the more light the better. Will the regular flash be ok?

In order to get the most from the onboard flash you have to get close to your subject. No more than 3 feet away or the light from your flash really falls off and won't be strong enough to give you those vibrant colours.

The best way to make sure to get the best colours is to invest in a good uw strobe that you attach to your housing. These are almost always more than the camera and housing put together, but it will move with you when you change systems and there really is no substitute.

That said, there are compromises: manual white balance, onboard flash, magic filters. Each of these will give you some nice results in certain circumstances.

I invested in maha rechargeable batteries and they last about 5 or 6 dives. Lots better than buying lots of regular AA's!!

I too have a Canon 540. Before I invest in a Canon housing I would like to know if the Nikonos SB105 strobe can be utilized for addition lighting and what kind of results I could expect compared to my Nikonos film equipment. Would the Canon S3 IS provide better results and does Canon even offer an inexpensive housing for the S3?
Input appreciated.
