When I downloaded the software for my new A540, everything downloaded fine. I have all the system requirements that the software said I needed. Yet when I attached the camera to my computer to download photos, I get an error message "No Hi-Speed Driver found on this computer". I can download the photos from the camera by going to the scanner camera wizard and clicking on the Canon A540 button or I can use a reader connected to the USB port on computer and download photos this way. So I don't understand why I can't download direct from the camera via the USB port connection. I have Windows XP with service pack 2 for operating system. Also have 512 Ram and 38 gig hard drive space available. When I checked on the drivers on my system, it shows they are all working correctly and that there are no upgrades available for them at this time. The memory cards are not the hi-speed cards, just the regular SD ones. Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

I don't bother with the software that comes with the camera. You can do way, way better quite easily. No need to waste batteries pulling directly from the camera, either. I always recommend using a chip reader instead, and pull the photos first onto your hard drive and then into your photo editing software of choice (Photoshop, or perhaps Photoshop Elements are both good and popular options... and there is also the free Picassa from Google).

If you feel you must load directly from the camera, or it worries you, I'd try reinstalling the camera drivers from the original disks. You may also want to check Canon's website to see if there is a newer version of the driver available.

Yup, what he said.

I use a card reader. I don't install the software that comes with the camera.

Save to my hard drive and backup the folder (to external and/or disk depending). Always work on a copy, not the original.

Good luck!
