Diving yesterday in Key West and after the first dive back on the boat noticed water inside the housing. Water got into the battery door, sd card slot, and usb door. Didnt appear to get inside the lens but im still sure the camera is ruined. I put it in dry rice to hope i can use it again but i doubt this will work since its salt water.

Does anyone know if Canon will replace or cover any defective housings? Ive had a it a few years. Cant tell where it leaked from .. maybe around the O-ring?

On another note is Ikelite housings better option for fuure if i cant get Canon to replace mine.

thanks

JMitch--Welcome to SB! Let me go out on a short limb and say no, Canon won't replace the housing. Even on a new housing they, and everyone else, are pretty specific about limiting liability. An in warranty (ie--1 year old or less) housing w/ a manufacturing defect they would replace (but not the camera). Since failure to maintain or install the O-ring properly is a leading cause of floods are you certain there is a manufacturing defect? If you had the case a few years and it just leaked now that may be hard to prove and practically pointless--it's beyond warranty.

Canon does have a customer loyalty program I'm told. If you send equipment to the Canon repair facilty and it is uneconomical to fix they may give you a good deal on current equivalent model. Might be worth a try for the cost of shipping but a phone call first would give a better answer than I can provide.

Do a search on SB for housing opinions--there are LOT'S! Will certainly depend on the camera you choose, so pin that down first. Hate to be the bearer of mostly bad news but housings can be prone to failure, even when well maintained. Good luck on this matter. // ww
