Hi all,

Well I was looking around for a 20D housing used and managed to find a 5D housing on craigs list that was practically brand new with a 17-40mm L port for under $700 and only dove for two weeks they say for a shoot in the carribean. Seemed like a great deal, so cheapness overshot common sense and I bought it.

Of course there's now my issues :) I don't have a 5D to start off...nor do I have a 17-40mm lens. What I do have is a 20D, a 10-22mm efs and a 100mm macro as well as a ds-50 ike strobe. Everything I really needed I think to do what I want short of the housing.

Just wondering what folks thought my best option was...

1: Was thinking I could throw it on Ebay and maybe get $1,000+ for it

2: The 20D kind of fits, I'm just trying to figure out a way to 'boost' it up a bit so I can see through the whole viewfinder. Past that enough buttons line up I can get by till I have enough cash for a 5D My Tamron 28-75mm lens fits the port so long as I lock it down at 28mm(no zoom, no manual focus). Will an insurance company go for this?

3: Let it sit in the box for a year or so while I try to raise the cash...I don't like this one much.

If you want to sit tight, rumors abound about the 5D Mark II coming out in the September-November timeframe! :)

Hi,

I got a 5D and might be interested in buying your housing. I'm planning to do some further diving courses in Thailand from October/November onwards. If I still got the bug, I'm seriously thinking about UW photography.

If this is interesting to you, send me a PM.

Thanks

Cool...bout time, you beat me to checking dpreview this morning.

Will see about selling it, I'm hoping used 5D's will get dumped for the low $1,000's now as folks upgrade...in which case it doesn't pay to get another housing. I don't see much about the MkII that will affect underwater ussage other then more megapixels but I do 20x30's off of my 20D with no problems.

Got my 5D Mark II late last week and I would say I love it. Love the full sensor and the HD video recording. Another neat feature that 5DII has over 20D is Auto ISO, which may actual be really useful underwater. The amount noise in the photo is hard to see at High ISO settings (i.e. 3200). I would say the noise is the biggest problem that I have experienced with my old 20D, even shooting with fast lens.

Overall, I would say it is an excellent upgrade, but a little costly one.

I am just wondering at this point what modifications will be required to existing 5D housing for the new 5DII.
