Hey Gudge,
Any idea how the live view will go underwater? Been contemplaiting purchasing a dSLR, with a plan to get a decent housing eventually. Thinking the 40D may be the way to go.

Ry.

it will probably be 6 to 8 monthes before we see any housing for these camera. i have the 30D and the 5D and see no reason to upgrade even if they do come out with a new modal to the 5D. i shoot lots of different things including weddings, portriture and some sports photography they are nice cameras and i would not mind someone giving me one but i do not see any reason to up grade at this point. i love my 30D and my 5D. other than the megapixel jump and the higher frame burst there is not enough change to justify the cost of upgrading. i would recomend the 30D to any one that is considering getting a camera.

Ooohhh... the 40D looks nice. Live view would be very cool for diving on a 3 inch screen...

As for a housing, By the time I drop $2800 on a camera and lens, it'll take 6 months to save for the housing anyway

Liveview isn't that big a deal for me (too many years of peering through a viewfinder with both film and digital SLR's ;) ), but it could be good for certain situations. There is a discussion on Wetpixel about how it would go underwater, but everyone is just guessing.

There are other features that make it an attractive choice over my 20D. Based on playing around with my wife's 400D, the large LCD where you see clearly and adjust all your most used camera settings would be great for my failing eyesight. :D Being able to look at these settings in one place is good on a 400D when compared to the 20D where you have to look in three places (LCD on back, LCD on top and viewfinder) to cover the same settings.

just need Seatool to come up with one of those sleek sexy housings for the 40D and we'll be all set (although somewhat poorer)
