I'm a Fish!
I'm searching for my first DSLR camera system and would like to solicit comments and suggestions with the Canon 400D and 10 Bar housing. Any readers out there that currently use this set up I would appreciate your opinions. I've owned 3 point and shoot cameras and am ready to upgrade and start some serious u/w photography.

Love the Canon 400D.

Don't know anyone using the 10 bar so can't help.

Know the SeaTool is a cute little unit and they will be offering more ports in the new year. Ikelite also has a great housing, if a little bulkier, for it. Also check Sea&Sea and Subal, I'm not real sure who offers options for this camera coz the SeaTool is the only one I'd consider hehehehe...

I've never used a 10bar housing but seen a few. They should be similiar to the Fantasea housings. If the aluminum housings are out of your budget, you might want to consider the Ikelite's as they have a broader coverage of lenses/ focus rings, slightly lower price, and a solid reputation.

I've recently aquired the Ikelite housing for my 400D and with three different ports and
lenses find it pretty versatile. Yesterday had down on its first deepish dive on a wreck,
overall I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not sure if the 10bar has as many port options, the Ikelite 8"Dome is real bonus. As alcina said the 400D is a great camera, I like it so much Ijust brought a spare body.

The Fantasea Housing is the same or extremely similar. Customers seem very happy with them. The adjustable handles are comfortable. They are much lighter out of the water than the Ike and smaller to swim with. The housing has all controls, even ones that the S&S version doesn't have. It has metal ports as opposed to the Ike plastic ones. It comes with a standard port that fits the kit lens as well as the macro ones.

I am the proud new owner of th Rebel XTi/400d, but I won't have it in my hands until Thursday. I also won't have the housing for SEVERAL more months because I TOO want the SeaTool Housing that Alcina referred to. That's ok...I need time to learn the camera and the lens first anyway! I can't wait to get started with it....this is my first DSLR....am upgrading from my Oly 5050!

Lucky you, Christi! You get your camera today - mine doesn't arrive until tomorrow... though I do have the Seatool housing here to play with :D

Hope you love it!

Hey guys - got mine yesterday - with 60mm macro!

Pfffft! Rub it in! :P

I have the 60mm and the 10-17 fisheye coming... will likely get one other lens as well, maybe the 17-70 or the 18-200, but want to play with a couple first before I decide what other to go with.
