While in London for an interview (which was ok.... i think the HR lady fancied me, she kept pulling her top off her shoulder, and then when we left the room, she said its a bit chilly, when i looked it certainly was....... she could have had someones eye out!) I went down Totenham court Road (the electrical and gadget road) to check out a 10D.

I am not kidding i went in every shop and there are a few and not one 10D to be found anywhere, went back to my friends house on the outskirts of London and went in to the town and blow me down 2 shops and they both had a 10D.

I duely whipped out the 5060 (i have on loan while my 5050 is being fixed) and took a photo (SHQ) of my son, put the card in the 300D took an SHQ at wide and zoom and then the 10D and took SHQ's from wide to zoom on a 300mm lens.

i have to say what a lovely piece of kit the 10D is, don't get me wrong the 300D is good but doesn't feel as solid and i would like full metering control.

I have now put my snowboard, boots, bindings (the whole kit) and surfboard in my local paper for sale and once they have gone will then advertise my 5050 and all its bits.

I thought I would always stay with Olympus, but they just haven't delivered the goods on the DSLR front for us, and after using the D10 for 10 minutes i have been sold on it.

excellent photo's and the menu system was easy to navigate, I can't wait

I was looking at the 10D and 300D as well. Right now though, I think I am leaning toward Nikon D70 or possibly Fuji S2/S3 instead mainly because of the lense choices.
Have you decided on what lens you will get?

Clive:

We sure agree with you! We have one, and the 10D's a great camera. We use the S50 for our u/w setup. Canon's pushing the Rebel digital also, and it looks like a good camera, too. Have a blast with it!

Let's get wet! :palmtree:

i went into my local town today and the camera store guy said to hang fire until the D70 comes out as in his opinion they were pretty equal.

then if i didn't like the D70, canon (if they had any sense) would drop the price of the 10D and throw in a lens to compete with the D70.

the S2 is a nice camera and has the luxury of TTL but the camera tray is not good and it needs CRV3's or what ever they are as well as AA's. i think when you are moving up to this spec of camera you need more than AA's.

S3 looks nice, but no one has even mentioned a housing yet, at least with the others you can get a relatively (ike if you are reading drop the damn prices a bit more, flood the market and grab the lions share!!) cheap Ikelite, but the others are £1500 to £2500 just for the housing and no ports.

I think the S3 uses the same body as S2. Ikelite did say that it should fit in their S2 housing, not sure if they might have to make any small modification or not but I think a housing for S3 should not be a problem and it is not much more expensive than the 300D housing. I think I am definitely waiting until the D70/S3 comes out before I will make up my mind. Fuji claimed that AA will last a long time in their camera so I have no problem with that (well, at least until a review is out and see how long the batteries will last).
As far as lens go, my only complain about Canon line is the lack of some WAL and lack of choice for zoom macro. I am very interested in Nikno 12-24mm, 10.5mm fisheye and the macro 70-180mm zoom. Canon does not offer anything similar at all. Sigma did release a 12-24mm lens for Canon but I have not found any report on how well it works yet and the lens is a bit chunkier than other so finding a port for it may or may not be a problem. It does not fit the standard Ikelite port but I think Ikelite is looking into it. Anyhow, the new camera won't be out in time for my April trip anyhow but hopefully I will have a new set of toy before my other divetrip later on this year :-)

the heck with the dang camera man.....what happened to the lady that kept pulling on her blouse??? where the heck are your priorities????

Sorry.....was just having a ''highly frustrated'' moment.

Don't all have a heart attack, but I bit the bullet and have a Fuji S2 coming Wed.. I was weighing the supposed "Best image in it's class" Fuji with the <$1K Nik D70. I have a huge Nikon glass collection already but the final selling point was the Nik compatable TTL flash capability of the S2 as I already own dual Ike SS200's. So in the long run, all I really need is the digital back and another Ike housing; I already have an Ike housing for my N90s with ports for every lens I own. Moral: Don't look for the "cheapest" body but look at your total "upgrade cost". The camera body is the least part of the equation.

trouble is the S3 is going to be released until the autumn, and if you wait for that no doubt Nikon and Canon will have another in the pipeline and you will hang on to see what they are like and you will wait for ever.

I do like the look of S3, but I want to sell my 5050 while it is still worth something
