Ok so here is the choice. I have a canon 10d for work. What housing and strobe do I buy for it. I currently have no underwater camera gear? I am leaning towards the sea and sea.

I have always used Ikelite housings and strobes and have never had a problem with them. I don't have any experience with sea&sea so can't really help you there.

I am really looking forward to getting the Ikelite Housing for my 10D. I believe they will be available in a week or two.

Sea and Sea housing for 10D is supposed to be very good, from what I heard. I recently ordered a Sea and Sea housing for my Nikon D70 and it is based on the same casing as the 10D. I have a couple of different Ikelite housing which I like very much but went with Sea and Sea this time mainly because Ikelite does not support the Nikor 70-180 macro lens. Basically the main disadvantage for Ikelite DSLR housing for me is the lack of support for a lens that I want to use(70-180) and the lack of 8 inch domeport (Ikelite only has 6", don't really know how much of a disadvantage that is), Sea and Sea has more port choices but it comes with a price. For D70, Sea and Sea costs about $600 more. Sea and Sea ports also cost almost twice as much as Ikelite. Sea and Sea housing with tray/arm, seems a bit more compact than Ikelite also (from the picture anyhow). Both have clear back which is what I prefer, over the all metalic casing.

I don't see the Aquatica housing get much of a mention here ;)

ssra30- Was it much hassle to get the tripod mount removed from the 70-180?

No, over here in Thailand I just dropped it off at Niks Thailand (the main Nikon Distributor here in Bangkok) and paid $25 and they removed it for me. That was just about it.

Thanks for the Replys. I was going to go with the ikelight to save the extra money but I keep on getting the it will be out next month next month next mont. This time I really think it is comming out next month. However this month i am going to grand bahamas and want to bring a camera with me. Sure I could rent one but the difference in price between the better sea and sea and the ikelight is about the same as the rental price. So today I am going to ABsea photo to look at the sea and sea for the 10D and the ike light for the digital rebel. Ill keep you all posted. Happy diving.

this was why i never purchased a 10D and went for the D70 as i knew ike would release a housing for that.

in the UK, one shop said that ike have been saying they would release a housing for the 10D for months, and very much doubted they would now, as it has been so long.

Well as I had said before I was tired of waiting for the ikelight housing. Ikelight has been saying there housing is comming out next month for about 5 or 6 months. So today I bought the SeaAndSea housing. I looked a the ikelight housings for other digital slrs and it did not seem as compact, strong or user freindly as the sea and sea. I will report back how I like it soon. It should be here on friday and I am going to try and dive with it on saturday. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me a message.
