Could someone please help me understand where to mount the canister and how you would route the cable for use with side mount. Im right handed so I would imagine the light head would be on my right hand? I tend to use my left hand for LPI and drysuit inflation and right hand for bcd dump valve (BCD is SMS 75) as the pull cord is on my left shoulder, I think I could reroute it to my right shoulder so everything in left hand accessible. A photo or video would be awesome.

All lightheads should by default stay on the left hand, outside of temporary stowage or switched to the right intermittently while staying on the trigger scootering. I’d be wary if you encounter an instructor that indicates anything otherwise.

In terms of mounting, it depends on the light, the harness, and personal preference. There are people that mount it in front of their right bottle (similar to backmount position), but this does not really work with AL cylinders (not that anyone should be diving an SMS75 open circuit with AL cylinders). Alternatively, butt mount it. You can look for inspiration on the XDeep group FB pages. The other alternative is mounting small boltsnaps on your canister and clipping it between the SMS75 butt rails.

very little to add to what @grantctobin said other than if your canister light has the switch on the lid it does restrict where you can put it since you need to be able to reach said switch. Mine don't have lid switches so I don't have to worry about it, but some of the mounting options don't work because of it.

Can you please explain why the light head should be on the left hand? I'm not looking for free training and I have not started any technical dive training.

The primary motivation is that you donate the long hose with your right hand. If the lighthead remains on your right hand, you will likely blind your buddy while they're already in a troubled state as well as send errant light signals. Depending on the lighthead, you'll likely also punch the teammate in the mask with the lighthead if it is in your right hand.

Your right hand is for donating the long hose and the scooter trigger

These all sound like logical reasonings. Thanks for the info.
