My wife and I are headed to Cancun in February.
Can anyone recommend a trustworthy, customer-service oriented dive shop there?
We hope to do a variety of dives (reef, cave, night).
Thanks.

Manta Divers is good, so is Scuba Cancun. The Cenote dives are a must, if you do them as your last dives of the trip, you get a good fresh water rinse of your gear.

btw: welcome to :sblogo:

Drop a line to Ben@mayanaquadive.com. He runs a great shop behind the Hotel Internationale at KM 4.5.

Tell him what you want to do and he'll set up the intinerary. He's got great staff, fast boats and a great location. Check them out on Mayan Aqua Dive offers Cancun Diving, Snorkeling, Cavern Diving, Cozumel Dives & PADI Courses.

Check on the board here as well. He gets very good marks from nearly everyone that has dove with him. You won't be sorry!

I did some dives with Aquaworld, at the time they were the biggest operation there. They were fine except they packed a lot of divers on the boat. Dives were very structured but also very safe. I'd recommend them if you want to be taken on a tour but maybe one of the smaller operations would be better if you want more freedom.

Hi Comtnbiker,

I would have to agree with Spratman about using Ben at Mayan Aqua Dive offers Cancun Diving, Snorkeling, Cavern Diving, Cozumel Dives & PADI Courses . I was just in Cancun from Dec 01 to Dec 22 and obtained my Rescue Diving through Ben personally, as well as doing an additional 10 other dives within the Cancun area with him and/or his great staff members.

They have an excellent spacious dive boat, which has a dive platform and a removable transom which makes for effortless water entries and exits. Throughout my 3 weeks I always found the boat to be emaculately clean, well organized and there was always lots of room for everyone on board. As I only brought a shortie with me, I utilized their dive equipment which I always found be extremely well maintained and clean.

I found that all the staff goes out of their way to try and make every dive an enjoyable experience. I was really impressed with the Captain of the Boat, whom on occasion will relinquish the helm to someone else and would do a dive. He is an extremely knowledgable diver whom I learned quite a bit from, both diving with him and talking with him during surface intervals.

I did a day trip to Cozumel arranged through Ben, and as I am somewhat of an air hog, Ben went the extra mile without being asked and arranged for AL100 tanks for me instead of the usual AL80's. Though Cancun has lots to offer and I really enjoy diving all the various reefs in the area and the wreck, I highly recommend doing a day trip and diving the "Wall" in Cozumel, it really is incredible.

During my 3 weeks of diving with Ben I met alot of friendly fellow divers from every experience level. I especially enjoyed the regular diving with Dave(Canada) and Yvonne(UK) , whom shared the many daily reef dives, as well as the trip to Cozumel, and diving the wreck in Cancun.

I found that Ben and the staff made me feel like I was family and not just another customer. I'm sincerely looking forward to returning to Cancun next December, and diving with Ben and the staff again.

William :)
