What is the difference between these cameras? Is it just the HF100 does not have internal memory? Is the internal memory of much benefit as opposed to me putting the $200 towards memory cards that I will have to buy anyway.

You are correct, the only difference is that the HF10 has 16GB of internal memory, where the HF100 requires the use of SD cards for memory. My wife and I decided to go with the HF10 over the HF100 after reading a few reviews of people having problems with the onboard SD card reader on the HF100 after a year or so. The way we looked at it was that for a bit more $ if the card slot goes bad the camera is still completely functional. By the way you can get these for a tremendous deal right now because the HF10 was just recently replaced with a new 32GB model. I hope this helps.

Thanks, actually the list price as $200 - but actual price dif is about $50 now

You might really want to look at the new HF S10. It has both internal memory (32GB) and uses SDHC cards. The camera is due out anyday now, and will have housings available from the housing manufacturers...

I am not really familiar with all the Canon camcorders as I have been involved with Sony only for several years. So what are the best Canon camcorders (prosumer, not professional) for underwater? Do they have any of the depth/color issues that most of the Sony HD divers complain about?

Im currently writing up a report on the new cameras from the PMA show which I attended yesterday in Vegas. Sony is of course the most popular for underwater use since housing manufacturers (other than Ike) have little Canon support. I believe that will change this year...
