Can Someone Explain Back Kicking? Or if you know a thread or site that might alreayd address that just point me there. I have a feeling that intuitively I know what it is/ how it works to slow or stop you- but if there's a technical description I would like to know.

Thanks!

And from the video, you really got a good idea of how to apply this mostly useless skill. It was really cool - backing away. Of course, the guy may have simply been zooming out (easy, people... :D ) but its a good example of a practical application.

I use it all the time for holding position - but do very little actual repetitive back kicking. The actual back kicking is useful (I suppose) for those who enter tight spaces where you can't, you know simply TURN AROUND and dive out like a normal person. For the rest of us, a couple slow kicks will work to hold me or slow me down as I approach stuff.

Its a cool, gee whiz skill. Its very useful for holding position, and pulling back from things without using your hands, but nobody uses it to sort of book along like the freakshow in the video.

Mostly because we can't ( :D )

No, I was backing up...
Here is the clip. It's about 3.5M.

I use the backwards kick mostly when doing OOG drills or baking out of something. Use it to say in place if there is a slight current.

i do a variation on the chopper turn using the backwards kick, sort of like
a spastic bee version of the chopper... dunno why... i guess its cool to turn and
back up at the same time?

That's how you do a reverse park!

Nice clip! Good demenstration of how the music effects the tone of the video. Made me laugh.

I just have kick envy...

I use reverse all the time... well not all the time... I mean at least some of the time on almost all of my dives.

Sometimes there is a reason other than just the fun of it... but a lot of the time it is just for the fun of it.

It does make it easy to keep an eye on your buddy when you position yourself slightly in front and to the side of them and fin backwards... but it is harder to keep from bumping into stuff.
:D
