Diveheart - Ian Brown Interview in Cozumel
An interview with Ian James Brown, Dec. 2011 in Cozumel,…

First of all, what an nspirational video! I was also glad to read in the text of the post (after I watched the video) that Ian Brown did go on to become a doctor! I got the sense from the video that Ian was interested in studying the effects of diving on spinal /nerve issues - do you know if he has had the opportunity to pursue those interests yet?

Secondly, I'm in complete agreement that diving has significant potential to relieve certain types of pain. I'd love to see some studies on this! I am convinced from my own experience that diving can work better at relieving pain* than many conventional treatments.

Thanks for posting the video, and for the experiences you make possible!

*my issues are obviously minor, in comparison

I had chronic pain related to an abcess near my spine. Diving was THE ONLY thing that provided me any relief. So much so that I researched and found several studies that supported what I was experiencing in patients who underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Diveheart leaves Saturday for Cozumel with a group of Adaptive Divers. Two quadriplegics and one paraplegic and we'll be conducting research in collaboration with Midwestern University...but we have 100 years of Scuba Therapy ahead of us... you'll find more great stuff in our media kit http://www.diveheart.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/DH-Media-Kit-Sep2015.pdf

I have a bit of osteoarthritis and general stiffness mainly as a result of past injuries. I find swimming in cool water and diving in particular reduces the pain and improves flexibility. I also get a touch of dryness and eczema on my hands, swimming in river water (off peat fells) noticeably improves this.
