Is this the right area for camera discussion? I've never taken underwater pictures but I'm anxious to take some pictures when I go to Cozumel. I'm planning on renting a camera unless anyone knows of a resonably priced underwater digital camera that takes good pictures. Is a good flash or light the key to good underwater pictures?

There's a photography section with alot of helpful acomplished people waiting to answer your question. Check the forum list you'll find it. Good luck with your new hobby. Dont worry your question will more then likely be moved to here. http://www.scubaboard.com/f3/s

From my experience a strobe is the difference between a good picture and a great picture. A detached strobe will light the particles in the water from a different angle than your camera lens so you will not pick them up in the picture. If you just use the flash on the camera all those little particles light up and will show up in your picture.

I moved it to this forum for you.

"Reasoably priced" - well I afraid that really depends on your definition.... You can get a digital set up for around GBP400 and upwards (sorry don't know what the CHF rate is at the moment - or even close for that matter).

Have a look at the offerings from Sony and Olympus(Camedia)
