I am planning on purchasing a camera soon. I would like some opinions on digital or 35mm? I will be cruising out of the country within a year and will be doing some wonderful dives from Puget Sound to Panama Canal and east to the Carribean. I like having pictures to put in albums but like the idea of discarding any pictures that aren't worth saving. Any suggestions for me? Does anyone know if cameras I use up here will be good in the warm water?

For better or for worse, amature photography is moving primarily to digital.

Unless you have specfic needs, such as making large prints, significantly enlarging specific portions of the frame, or have a significant investment in a 35mm setup that you can easily get a good underwater housing, digital is much less expensive over time and simpler to operate in many ways, more exposures before needing a "reload", no risk of x-ray machines ruining your memories, etc. It is also much easier to edit your pictures. If you want to place "normal" 1hr photo shop sized prints in an picturebook, then just get a colour printout.

Hi defaziofaze2. Firstly welcome! Secondly I moved your question to the Underwater Photgraphy section for you.

Have a trawl through this section and see if it can give you some answers. One main thing though - you will need to come up with a budget!! Anywhere between $100 and $100,000 should do the trick!!

Good luck

Thanks Jonathan. I'm new to this site and am learning my way around. Happy diving.
