At what depth should you start using lights with your underwater system? If we are staying shallow 40 50 feet is it necessary to use lights?h

Sorry for the late reply, I just returned from back to back trips to the Channel Islands and then down to Guadalupe Island diving with Great White Sharks and Shark Diving International.
Lighting is the key to underwater video and there are many variable involved with this question. I bring my lights on almost every single dive I make. The depth is not as important as your water conditions and your weather....sunny day versus cloudy day. Where are you diving? In Lake Michigan or in the Caribbean? Also what time of day are you diving. When diving in early morning or late evening using lights really compliments the images you take. Also what kind of video system do you have and what lights? All of these play a role in deciding.
