Hey all,

I will be diving in late may and was wondering if there are any places that rent digital dive cams.

I will be bringing a digital camera of my own, but nobody currently offers an underwater housing for it.

Holly (aka photocoz) at Island Photo (http://www.islacozumel.net/services/armando/) can help you.

Cheers,

Just another plug for Holly at Island photo. Armando and Holly are wonderful people, both published photographer/videographers and have the only full service shop on the island. They also do wonderful processing, I've taken some digital images to places here in the states and haven't gotten as good prints as I have from them.

I've been a customer for years and they have really helped me with my photography skills as well as steering me in the right direction for using the right kind of equipment for my skill level.

I'm to the point I'm actually in the process of purchasing a camera and housing from them to hopefully have for my trip in May.

If you have time go to the photo gallery and see some of the pics I have taken. these were taken with a Sea & Sea DX3000, 3Meg pix digital camera she rents. I'm buying the new DX5000, 5Meg pix version of the same rig.

Happy diving,
Marc

Second that about Holly and Armando. Nice rental equipment and really good people. Have a great time

+1 for Island Photo. My wife rented an MX-5 and strobe a couple of years ago. She takes good pics topside, but she'd never taken any U/W. Holly gave her a brief "class" on how to compose, frame, light, etc. Her first time out she got some amazing shots. Cannot recommend them highly enough, great people.

Scott,

I will give Holly and Armando yet another plug! Armando resurrected my Nikonos from the dead...remember when I was going to take pictures for you guys and my camera was DEAD! These are the people I took it to and it's like a brand new camera! I took the picture below after it was brought back to life.

And, without Holly, I wouldn't have gotten this shot...or the famous Sponge shot that caused us to miss the first squadron of 15 or so rays...haha!

Thanks all,

It looks like fujifilm did just release a new housing for my cam:

http://www.dealtime.com/xPC-Fuji_Fujifilm_WP_FX440_Underwater_Camera_Housing

However after reading your posts, I might go ahead and rent for a half day just to get the mini training course on how to take underwater photos.

I have not found anybody who has actually used a F450 underwater yet.

You realize that they will not have the correct housing for your camera down in Coz... right? You will have to rent one of their cameras & housing.

So if you want to be taking pics the whole trip you're just gonna have to buy that housing anyway :crafty:
