Have the EF-S 15-85mm and EF-S 18-200 mm lenses for the Rebel T1i in a sea and sea housing. Any chance I can use the same 8 inch glass dome I use for the tokina 10-17mm wide angle for either of these lenses? Anybody know if either of the lenses are practical for use underwater (focus at both ends?).

All suggestions/info helpful!

thanks,

Debbie

Debbie, not sure why you are asking. The Tokina is an excellent lens...and those other two would not seem to offer any advantage.

If you want to do, say macro pictures, using a dome is not that practical, would suggest getting a flat port for that.

I know the 18-200 is a longer lens, and would not be usable, not sure on the 15-85, but would guess no.

You should be able to tell, just by looking at the size of the lens compared to the 10-17.

Should have been more specific. I have and like both the tokina 10-17 with a dome port, and a 60mm with a flat portl. I was hoping one of my topside lenses would be usable when I want to have some ability to shoot somewhat wider and somewhat closer up on the same dive. May not be possible. I have a friend who has used the 18-55 kit lens with the dome port with good results, and wondered if I could use a better lens and have more room to vary my shots on a dive.

Maybe the Subal Port Chart will help, though the 18-55 isn't listed. (FP=flat port, DP=dome port, FE=fisheye, SW=super-wide)

The Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC Macro is fairly popular as a midrange zoom. Nauticam shows it being used with either their 6" wideangle dome or 8.5" fisheye ports (with extension rings).

None of the port charts I've seen show the Canon 18-200 or the 15-85.

When in doubt, call Reef Photo. :)
