Hi all,

Just started diving and curious about getting into u/w photography. I have a great SLR (Canon EOS-50) and just wondering if it would be worth getting housing for it (in the future), and if so what? Or whether this would be too expensive / too risky and I would be better off buying a different camera in the future.

Thanks in advance for the help.
:)

You have a great camera and probably good lenses. Most probably that the camera&lens is by far less expensive than the housing&strobe!
But, you can get great photos with it, and in case your luck runs out and the housing gets flooded you can buy a new 2nd hand eos50 for about 250$ or even less..So I would risk getting the housing or wait a while until you can get one of Canon's digital SLRs for less than 1K$ (perhaps a 2nd hand D60 in a few months?). THAT is worth waiting for!

One thing to consider: IMHO if you are just starting your scubadiving expereince you better wait until yuo acquire more experience before you beging to move around with a housed camera and strobe. It demands more attention and skill than a point&shoot camera, more bulky etc. This is no stuff for newbies!

I see the date on this is a couple weeks old but thought I would mention in case your still interested. I have a housing for that camera I believe. I went to the Ikelite website and I see it says my housing is for the 50e and no metion of the 50, but that should only be a difference in the eye control if i am not mistaken. Please inform me if I am. I have been trying to sell mine in case you ever become interested in buying one. I am getting another Ikelike housing for my digital camera, that is the reason for selling mine. If interested, you can contact me at my email listed troy@ostendorfphotography.com and I can give you more details and send a photo of it for you. Thanks
