I just received a call from Alison Dennis -aka Scuba with Alison (and boy was I shocked!! But it was SO good to hear directly from her!)
Alison & the crew are all fine. No power, no running water, but overall in good shape. She said they were lucky - they came thru in much better shape than so many people. The boat which they pulled out and moved 2 miles inland before the storm hit is in perfect condition she said not even a scratch or a bit of dirt. (How amazing is that!) Shes got cell phone service currently, but no way to charge her phone, so when it goes, it goes.
The quick update she gave me - power poles & transformers arriving Friday with 1st workers on the first supply ferry in. Puerta Maya pier is gone. International pier will be operational by Friday for supplies to start coming in; Punta Langosta pier will be useable in about 15 days.
Many hotels will take some times to get up & running, but as soon as the waterfront streets downtown can be cleaned up and put in working order they will need cruise ships and tourists to stop at the island (ASAP!) for the island to get back on their feet. Tourism is their lifeblood, so theyre depending on all us to all come back as soon as they will let us.
Alison is hoping we will all pass the word along that they will be up and running as soon as physically possible, and that the dive community, and the whole island will need all our support to pull thru this .....
