Hi All-

Some friends and I are heading to Australia after taking the bar exam in July. We're interested in spending a couple of days on a liveaboard. I have heard that ProDive's Scubapro boats are pretty good. Have any of you used them? If not, do you have any suggestions? We'd probably do better on a slightly larger boat since one of us gets sick easily.

Thanks!
Val

i went on the prodive 3 day 2 night liveaboard in aug 2003. it was fantastic. comfortable boat, great (and lots of ) food and very professionally run. we dived at various sites on miln & flynn reefs. the dive sites were pristine and spectacular. there were both divers and snorkelers aboard. I have done various liveaboards in Cairns and would say that Prodive is the best i have been on.

In march this year I went on Taka dive to Cod hole northern GBR and Osprey reef. it was fantastic but I would not reccommend this trip if you are prone to sea sickness although I went just after a category 5 cyclone had passed over and the visibility was poor and the sea was rough. (my own stupidity for not heeding peoples advice about cyclone season)

in 2002 i went on the Atlantic Clipper run by Down under Dive. I hated it. we were stuck at the same dive site for 3 days. half the marine toilets on board didnt work and stunk to high heaven. the food was lousy and the aircon was freezing. the boat takes up to 60 pax.

Gidday Valifornia,

We are Divers in Cairns looking after divers. Pro Dive offer a very very good trip out of Cairns.Twinshare accommodation and some excellent reef sites. 9 day dives and 2 night dives inclusive of all gear and meals. Your profile says you have about 50 logged dives and this trip is excellent for your experience. Something a little more larger in boat size would be reef encounter. In my pictures is a current picture ( about 4 weeks ago) of prodives boat. I am endeavouring to put all boats current pictures in there.

Please also look at Mike Ball because the diving is next level up and they do a fly one way, cruise the other which may help on the sea sick side of things. Catamarans are always a little more forgiving than mono hulls. Finally if you won the lottery the trip is undersea explorer.

Finally, we are independant and can organise any of the above operators for you. We always advise to wait till you get here just to ensure we have picked the right trip for you and the weather conditions are the best suited for your time spent here.

Warm regards A.J at Experience Cairns

Thanks for the advice, Andrew. :) Since I am going with some friends who will be brand new, or possibly snorkeling, I think we'll stick go with ProDive, lest I turn my friends' attempt to explore Australia into two weeks of diving (don't I wish...)

Hello Val.
I and my wife dived with TAKA Dive in September 2004.
TAKA II is their newest boat. Unfortunately it is mono hull and it rocked too much, at least for me. :( The rest was absolutely great, no complaints whatsoever!!! The boat has good amenities, at least we had as we lived in upper deck cabin. If you take a look here http://www.takadive.com/index.htm it is room# 3 you'll see it yourself. We didn't hear any noise from the engine room as people from lower cabins did. The food was not sumptuous but of very good quality and tasty. Every evening we watched a video our photo guy was taking during the day. All in all it was a lifetime experience!
Oh, yeah, I'd listen to slipslop as well :)

If you have some specific questions, please feel free to ask!

Cheers,
oceanrealm

My wife and I used Pro-dive to book a 5 night live-aboard out of Port Douglas. We were bases in Cairns so we took the Quicksilver boat ferry north to Port Douglas. The ferry in-itself is an enjoyable trip. The dive trip out to Osprey and the Coral Sea was great and well worth it. We were on the "Diversity" a 70ft. cat. We did have some rocking on the way out to Osprey but it was really smooth on that cat.
We plan to be back in Cairns in July for a couple days on our way to PNG.

Dive Safe,
Caymaniac
