Hi everyone! Heading to Cairns in December just before the Xmas rush. I am a PADI instructor, my wife will is a newly qualified OW. Can anyone give some recommendations on who / where we should dive? Thinking about 3 days trips.. can she do the Yongala on an OW? How does one do that trip?

All help, advice, suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

You can do the Yongala as OW but need 6 dives on top of the 4 training dives. Also need deep dive experience, so you can pay $25 to take a Deep Dive orientation with a DM or instructor then this will allow her to dive the wreck, if she doesn't have any.

Note that the Yongala is nowhere near Cairns and can be dived out of Townsville (long ride out - 3hrs each way) or Ayr (40mins).

Plenty of good day trips but consider an overnight trip. Better value, less rushed, and better diving experience including night dives.

If time allowed I would look at the trips doing the Ribbon Reefs (Mike Ball or Spirit of Freedom) and there are plenty of posts here about these trips.

But a 2 day 1 night trip or a 3 day 2 night trip works out better when compared to day trips + accomodation + food over the 3 days. You can get a nice double, Stateroom or Ocean Vire on various trips. Once in a lifetime trip and honeymoon so may as well look at the best experience :D
