Hi all, we're headed back to Cabo this November. We dove CSL last October and had a great time. This trip, we're spending a few days at the start in Cabo Pulmo. Just a few questions:

I did a lot of searching of the forums and there were really only three dive operators that I found information on:

  • Cabo Pulmo Dive Shop (on the Beach Resort)
  • Cabo Pulmo Divers
  • Pepe's

I've read mixed reviews of Pepe's as of late and it sounds like he might not be in business? We're staying at the Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort. The comments of the shop at the resort and also Cabo Pulmo Divers both seem pretty good. I think there was a cost differential of about $10 between the two (resort more expensive). But that's really a wash for us.

Does anybody have any other information on the two operations that might be useful? Also, we dove in 3mil shorties last year in CSL/October. Will that be enough in Cabo Pulmo in November? Finally, I am having a hard time getting a hold of either place via email and phone. Do we need to reserve ahead of time? Or will it be pretty easy to book dives while we're down there?

Thanks!

Try Underwater Diversions, they do day trips from Cabo, great operation.

The water should be nice and warm in November, I used a 3/2 mil full, depends on your tolerance.
My Cabo Trip Report
I did Cabo Pulmo on another trip, but the temp information might help.

Thanks David, saw your report. We're actually staying in Cabo Pulmo, so would be looking for a local operator. Unless you're saying that it would be better to hook up with Underwater Diversions when they come up (we dove with them last year in CSL and had a great time).

If you are staying in Pulmo, you may just want to wing it, I've heard sketchy reports about Pepe's. There is a Dive Op/Restaurant you could dive with right there by the water where they launch the boats.

We stayed at the Beach Resort last November and dove with Cabo Pulmo Dive Center at the resort. I would highly recommend them - they were very professional and we made several friends at the shop and resort. Carmel is still there - she's a great DM. Our dives usually were under an hour, but were plenty saturated with nitrogen when we came up.

I hope you guys have as good of a time staying there as we did. We even cut short our stay in CSL to spend more time there. Both places we rented were great. Make sure you hit Caballeros for dinner - it was awesome.

I have a 2 part trip report out here if you're interested. I think it posted in January 2006.

Thanks for the info. We'll probably end up doing with the dive center since it is on site and has had good reviews. I saw your two reviews earlier - great detail. Our flight is supposed to get us in around 2. So, we should have plenty of time to shop and stock up prior to heading to CP. Is Aramburo the recommended market to go to and is it pretty easy to find?

Thanks again!

I received this automated reply when sending a question to the Cabo Pulmo Beach resort last week:

Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort experienced a bit of damage due to Hurricane John on the 1st of September. We have been cleaning up quickly and we are startng to look pretty good now.

We will be looking great by October 1st !

Has anyone been down in the past month that has information on the state of the resort. It sounds like they should be back up and running as of this week. But, just a little curious as to what damage there is to worry about. Now, of course, the services are limited down there. So, as long as our hut's still standing, I assume we're probably fine.

I think several people on SB have used Aramburo. The prices are reasonable and they have a good selection. We have also stopped at a much larger supermarket, about the size of a Wal Mart there in San Jose del Cabo that had a great cigar shop at the front entrance. Both of these places are on the right (east) side of the road if you're travelling north in San Jose. I beleive there's a Pemex station pretty close to Aramburo.
