Ok I finally flooded my housing and killed my Nikon. Given a new start, I thought maybe i should consider a Oly as my new underwater camera. So here's the question:

Which of the 2 is a better camera? the 5060 or the 7070? And which housing should i consider, the PT20 or the Ikelite? Feedback will be most helpful. Thanks!

Personally, I'd go with the Ikelite housing if you can afford it. I have the 5060 and the Olympus housing and experienced a flood that several other people on this forum have experienced after proper Oring care and Olympus won't acknowledge or fix the problem.

The 5060 and 7070 are pretty much the same size and I think the only real difference in the cameras are the increased megapixels and possibly lens quality?

The 8080 costs a bit less than the 7070 and runs a full 8.1mp, but the camera is a bit larger - just a thought.

Hi,

I speak about one housing (oly pt 020). This housing is not compatible with the olympus c 7070. The housing for this camera is the pt 027, I think olympus does this just for marketing purposes, because there is only a few mm difference...

I love (loved) my 5060. DEPP is currently replacing it because the PT-020 housing flooded. I just got the Ikelite and have heard great reviews on it. What is also nice about the Ikelite is that if you want to upgrade the 5060 to a 7070 down the road, you can use the same housing.

Both cameras are neck and neck I'd say. The increased Mega Pixels are not going to make that big of a difference though, unless you are going to be printing huge poster size pictures.

Which ever camera you decide on I'd go with the Ikelite housing. I chose it over the Olympus housing do to the flooding problems that I had read about. I just got back from my first trip with it and had no problems. I looked at the Olympus housing in the store and thought it looked kind of cheap, I could be wrong though, lots of people do use the Olympus housing and are very happy with them. There certainly is a difference in price between the two!

Ditto that.

What is the cost of a flooded Olympus housing and camera to you? Ikelite is a much better housing and worth the extra $$$. Refer to my posts in Ishie's thread.

Ok, I have decided to go for the 7070. The price difference here in HK is only aound US$60 and they gave a 512mb card free making the price difference negligible. Also, the 7070 has the Oracle AF which tracks moving objects. That will help with those skitty creatures. I am now looking for a Ikelite housing to go with the camera. Where is the cheapest place to find one??? It cost US$600 here in HK.

After the fact, but I'd go with the Ikelite housing, not only for the above reasons, but for the Button Access Controls..
Diving with thick gloves on, makes it difficult to work the buttons and knobs especially having to hold one down and spin another, while floating around... Ike has a hold button which I'm told is useful..
The PT015 housing is nice for a quick and easy point-n-shoot dive, but a PIA if you have to start messing around with it... with gloves on.. might be a lot easier with warm water fingers...
I heard of List $600 but sold for $525 for an Ike 5060? housing,
probably apples and oranges but they're in the same pricing range...

I saw the US$510 site. Have asked for shipping costs. :) By the way, how do u use the super macro with the flash? Looks impossible at the moment.
