Would it be a benefit or burden to divers or the dive industry to have expiration dates on c-cards.
example 1: Diver does not dive for X amount of time.
example 2: Diver holds specialty card, dives regulary but not in specialty, only needs to
renew specialty.
example 3: Renew every X number of years if you dive or not.
example 4: Leave it up to the original instructor/agency to decide if needed.

thoughts please.

I asked the same question cnctina. What I got was that most people will just review log books....but those can easily be "faked" also. I'll be watching to see what people's thoughts on this is.

As long as you are willing to subsidize the cost for all of us to renew every x number of years.

In theory, I think this would be great. However, with some of the freshly certified divers I've been running into as of late, I'm not sure anyone is being picky about who gets certified and who doesn't. It seems to me that anyone who is willing to pay for a course gets a C-card. <head shaking>

Just another expense. As noted above, anyone can get a c-card. All they have to do is find the right instructor. Diving is about personal responsibility, and that can't be certified. It's your life, take what risks you will.

Don't we already have scuba refresher for those who haven't dived in a while?
