Last year I bought a relic of a canister for a cheap price. New battery and bulb from a discount place and it works. The problem is it is bulky and very neagative. So I was thinking of getting a new one. Price seems to coinside with burn time. At least in the near future I really don't see a dive lasting more than two hours at the outside. If I add an extra hour of burn time, is that enough room to grow or should I just bite the bullet and get the most burn time I can afford?

I've used many in the past but recently had a chance to try light monkeys canister. Very small, compact, Really good illumination and spread and price is comparable.

I'll second the Light Monkey suggestion. I've got their 12W with a 4 hour burn time. I can do two decent dives per day with it.

Light Monkey

OP, you didn't mention what kind of light you have now. A few people have upgraded older 10w HID's to LED. Bobby at Underwater Light Dude does an nice LED upgrade that runs $310, including shipping. As for weight, I switched out the lead acid batteries in an old Dive Rite wreck can to NIMH. Got substantially more burn time and was lighter.

It is a Ebay special. It was pretty banged up when I got it. Didn't see any markings on it and the sticker was to damaged to read. Only cost me $65. I got another $70 in battery, bulb, and o-ring invested in it. So I would probably just go new rather than in invest another $310 in this light.

Another vote for Light Monkey -- I've been using "their" lights for 8 years (the company has changed identity during that time) and the customer service from them is simply incomparable.

I'd go with at least four hours of burn time. I originally bought a smaller canister and two batteries, thinking I could swap them out between dives. It's a PITA. If you ever do two or three dives in a day, get a big battery.

What about the "Light for Me" lights? They seem to have a great price-performance ratio.

When discussing gear of this nature, where the gear is made and can be serviced is pretty important. It would be a lot easier for the OP to send his light from AR to FL than it would be to send it Poland.

Just a thought.
