Do the button O rings need to be serviced, replaced or relubed and any point? I looked in the book and I cannot find anything about this.
I have had my PT-015 housing for a year and done about 30 dives with it. The O rings for case have been replaced once and I do not see how to replace the button ones.

Here's the link to Dave's article on maintaining the orings:

Great that is what I was looking for.

Has anybody taken there housing to a authorized dealer? I am not sure if they would know more about a housing to service it or just ship it to olympus to do.

Do you mean take the housing to a dealer to have the o-rings lubed? To the best of my knowledge there are no dealers that will do this. And I doubt seriously if you could get Oly to do it for you. They consider the price of the housing low enough that you should just buy a new one.

I have followed Dave's guidelines and replaced as well as lubed all the o-rings in my PT-15. It's not hard to do IF you have the correct size o-rings.

Here's a URL to the thread that contains all the information on the c5050 orings:

Japanese JIS 2401 "P" series is the Standard for sizes P3 & P5, you'll find the standard here: http://mdmetric.com/or/jispgb.htm

All o-rings BUNA 70 (aka nitrile)

buttons:

seventeen o-rings, order number OR-2.8X1.9 from Maryland Metrics ( $3.94 per 100)
(aka Japanese Standard Size P3) http://mdmetric.com/

on/off & mode dial control:

one o-ring, order number OR-4.8X1.9 from Maryland Metrics ( $3.94 per 100)
(aka Japanese Standard Size P5)

one o-ring, Precision Associates custom o-ring 0.053 x 0.074 (unknown cost)
http://www.precisionassoc.com/customf.htm (1-800-394-6590)

With only 30 dives the small o-rings should not have a problem yet, but if you do replace them you must have the JIS sizes.

Did you replace the main red o-rings because they required it or because they were a year old?

jlyle:
Dee,

Where did you get the little o-ring for the mode dial?

Jim (jlyle)

I bought a kit from RickG on Digital Diver. He hasn't been around for quite a while.

jcclink....ever thought about putting together some o-ring kits? :D

How long after you started using your PT-15 did you change the o-rings? How many dives? Didn't you use some food grade silicone to lubricate the o-rings with? If you did, did this help extend their life? Just curious, I'm coming up on one year and still don't see too much damage. After all the recent leaks reported here, I don't want to push my luck :D.

After about 100 dives, I noticed that when I turned the camera on/off, the mode dial moved and I knew it was time. A simple disassembly, clean, lube did the trick. More than 100 dives later...still no problems.

I think it's very important to correctly seat your camera, making sure that the mode dial is where it should be, before closing the camera. Any lateral pressure on the shaft is going to lead to problems.

After about 40-50 dives. As jlyle memtioned, I had not seated my camera properly a few times and it caused problems with the Mode Dial shaft. Not only did my camera buttons not work properly but I had some weepage at the dial shaft. Changing the o-ring was a precaution but it did make me more aware of seating the camera properly and testing every button to make sure all is working properly after closing the housing door.

I used Tridents food grade liquid silicone. White pump bottle, red/white/blue label available in most dive shops. I spary a small puddle of the silicone in a spoon and using a small syringe, I apply one drop of silicone around the button from outside the housing. If you look closely, you can see a small notch on the side of the button 'port'. Make sense? Oh yeah... I got one of those glue syringes at a craft6 shop with a long skinny top on it. Fits right into the area around the buttons. You only need one drop.
