I've switched to a long-hose setup, but have yet to put a necklace on the backup. I was thinking that I'd leave the ziptie on the mouthpiece as-is, and just add another one on top of that to hold the bungee on. That way If the bungee came out from under the ziptie, the mouthpiece's ziptie wouldn't be affected. I was thinking I'd tie a knot in each end of the bungee and then have those knots under the ziptie, on top at each edge of the top side of the mouthpiece. Make sense?

Is that a sound plan, or is there something better?

thanks

I would not really encourage you to put two tywraps on the mouthpiece, although it would probably work it is getting more hard bits of plastic in a fairly confined area.

Personally I don't use a tywrap for the necklace at all. I use a "grapevine" knot or what is sometimes called a "double fishermans" knot.

In this link follow the steps to picture 5 and take the two lines between the two knots and place one above and the other below your mouthpiece and then pull the knots together as indicated in picture 6. This will tighten the bungee around your mouthpiece and keep it in place. If the second stage gets pulled hard the knot will simply slip off around the mouthpiece. The necklace will stay on your neck and the second stage, complete with mouthpiece intact, will be pulled free. You can even put the necklace back on underwater if the need should arise. It will take a little time and experimentation to get the length of the bungee just right.

Since when I am cave diving I store my line arrows and cookies on the bungee necklace I need two different necklaces. One of them is made a little longer to allow for the placement of the arrows and cookies, the other is a little shorter so as to be just the right length without anything attached. Switching necklaces is about as easy as it gets, it just takes a few seconds.

This is how it was recommended to me too at my Fundamentals class.

This is what I use. It works great! I've actually pulled the bungie off of the mouth piece twice - both times struggling hard to get it over my head (with my mask still on) when de-rigging in the water. It was bad technique on my part. It never came close to pulling off the mouthpiece.
